Best Green Technology Books

Whether you have a growing interest or have been a long-time insider on green technology, there is always something to learn from a book. Here are a few interesting publications that just might teach you something new!

"Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature" by Janine M. Benyus Harper Perennial (2002)

While many believe that technology is man's way of improving nature, author Janine M. Benyus contradicts that idea by suggesting that mankind's greatest innovations might actually come from mimicking the oddities and fascinations we discover in the world around us. We can learn a lot simply by closely observing the way nature provides its protection, transportation, food, and even light! Benyus proposes that copying nature through technology does more than satisfy human ambitions, it actually teaches us to live in a more peaceful harmony with nature itself. Her book focuses on "ten lessons" we could use to better our quality of living, both as individuals and as a culture. This book would be a great read for any amateur scientist or environmentalist!

"Sustainability: Building Eco Friendly Communities (Green Technology)" by Anne E. Maczulak (Green Technology)

This is an educational book for grades 9 and up, but can offer plenty of useful information on the subject of green technology. The book discusses the development of future concepts in the fields of biotechnology and agriculture. Unfortunately, the book can have a bit of an idealistic bias. The author sees technology as an answer to such things as "uncontrolled human population" and doesn't get to "building eco-friendly communities" until the very end of the book. For base information on the topic, this book has the basics, but for a complete reference on biotechnology, other books might be better.

"The Clean Tech Revolution: The Next Big Growth and Investment Opportunity" by Clint Wilder and Ron Pernick [HarperBusiness; First Edition edition (June 12, 2007)]

Alternative energy, green power, eco-friendliness; these things have recently become part of our popular culture. Ron Pernick and Clint Wilder show you how emerging concepts such as plant-fuels, solar energy, and wind power all have their roots in economics. Not only showing where this relation occurs, but showing you where to invest your money to reap the rewards brought about by the economic boom of the industry, is the aim of this book. Although the authors specifically claim they are not financial advisers, the information they provide could prove very useful to the aspiring entrepreneur or tactful investor.

Obviously, there are plenty more books on the subject of green technology that might prove even more useful than the ones listed here. The best way to find out is to search online, or visit your local library! You never know what kind of useful information might be hiding there.
