Company Profile: Reva Electric Car Company (RECC)

The Reva Electric Car Company is centered in Bangalore, India. The company makes the Reva, one of the world's best selling electric cars. The car is sold in many countries, however, the Reva is not always listed as a "car". Its designation can be different based on where it is sold and how it is used.

For instance, it is listed and sold as a heavy quadricycle when it is sold and registered in Europe. In the United States, it is sold instead as a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV). A speed limiter keeps the vehicle to 25 miles per hour only.

The Reva is said to have a capacity of up to 600 pounds in passenger weight and will hold two adults in the front and two children in back. The rear seats can be folded down for additional cargo space. The range for the car on a full charge is about fifty miles - an eight-hour charge.

New models of the Reva

The vehicle was first introduced and the produced from 2001-2007. Like later models, the original had eight, lead acid batteries that are located under the front seats. The original had some issues with safety, especially in crashes of around twenty five mph. The new model, the Ai can reach a maximum speed of 50 mph. A booster switch allows for acceleration and hill climbing.

The IC will have a top speed of 65 mph. and can travel for a range of just under one hundred miles. The interior of this model is higher grade than previous models. The back seat can handle two adults without a problem.

Safety features

The new car has added many safety features that include: front disc brakes, a collapsible steering column and a stronger chassis, which allowed for more successful crash tests.

Charging features

The L-ion model offers a lighter car and a much faster recharging time. This model is less affected by temperature changes and will also feature a solar panel. Off board, three phase charging will allow for about 90% charge in about one hour.

Future models

The NXR will be released in the near future and will be a two-seater, sports car, which the company expects to stand out for both performance and its speed capabilities. This model is being produced by partnership between RECC and Bannon Automotive.
