Eco-Friendly Innovations In Battery Technology - HP's Green Laptop Batteries
Battery technology innovations are strongly driven by the green movement that gradually takes over the world. Researchers from renowned universities, especially from the United Kingdom and the United States, are ceaselessly working on developing new techniques in battery manufacturing that try to make batteries greener without altering their efficiency. But while their research is making a slow but steady progress, some companies are already introducing better battery products on the market, which, even though not revolutionary, are greener than conventional batteries. One of these companies is Hewlett-Packard; its offerings include the Enviro series batteries which are compatible with a wide range of HP laptops.
The Enviro Batteries from HP
HP's green range of batteries use an improved version of the Lithium-ion battery technology occurring in most conventional batteries. The new technology increases the lifespan of the battery to three years, thus reducing recharge times by up to 50%.
Laptops are great especially for people who want to get rid of cables at work and for those who are constantly on the move. But the downside of laptops has always been the reduced lifespan of their batteries. Even the top end laptops still need to be recharged every few days. Also, if the weather is hot, the conventional Lithium-ion batteries used by laptops discharge at an even faster rate.
In recent years the processing and storage technology used in laptops has evolved at an unprecedented pace. Manufacturers have been able to offer powerful configurations at a smaller and smaller scale. Screen technology also improved. Screens are brighter and their colors more vivid than ever. But still, even if CPU, GPU, and other laptop components have improved considerably, battery technology has still lagged somewhat behind.
Nonetheless, it seems that leading manufacturers are becoming interested in battery technology because the demand for durable laptops and mobile devices is growing. Therefore, research into making better Lithium-ion batteries is, until a new battery technology appears altogether, the solution for green living.
HP's new battery series uses a technology that was invented by Boston-Power Inc., an American-based company specialized in energy sources and especially in batteries. In order to have access to the new technology, HP has signed a partnership with Boston-Power Inc. that will allow it to use the patented technology (nicknamed Sonata) for some of its notebooks.
The Enviro batteries come with numerous improvements compared to older models of Lithium-ion batteries used by HP for its notebook series. Some of the most striking improvements include an increased level of safety, recharge times reduces by up to 50%, better retaining capacity, and increased lifespan when compared to other batteries.
The green batteries from Hewlett-Packard are available with many new models of notebooks offered by the company but can also be purchased separately at affordable prices.
AA or AAA green batteries have been around for quite some time; but green Lithium-ion batteries for laptops are something new. They are bound to further increase portability while at the same time help preserve the planet.
