Do love the feel of the wind flowing past you as you drive to work or pick up groceries? If so than the Enertia Brammo electric motorcycle may be something to look into. It is expected to be available the first quarter of 2009 and will cost roughly $15000. It runs on six lithium phosphate batteries made by Valence Technologies. It weighs 280 pounds and has a top speed of 50 mph.
There are many advantages and reasons to look out for this exciting motorcycle. From the green standpoint alone, Enertia has gone out of there way to ensure that it will be clean from "well-to-wheel". The Brammo is twice as efficient as the Tesla and nearly five times as a regular motorcycle. The amount of CO2 produced is half that of the Roadster as well. The batteries last 35000 miles or ten years and according to the company, 90% of it can be recycled. The batteries charge in about 3 hours, which equals a little over 25 cents.
There are some drawbacks inherit with new technology. First off, if you are looking to go long distance, don't. The cycle goes a top speed of 50mph, and the faster you go, the less battery you will have. The optimum speed is 30mph and that will get you near 35 miles per charge. The production rate of the vehicle will be very slow at first and getting a hold of this new bike will prove a challenge for interested parties.
R.Martin, Electric Motor Sport, Kawasaki, and Zero all make electric type motorcycles.
2009 could prove to be an exciting year. The start of the electric car craze may begin with the Enertia Brammo. At an asking price of $15000 it may be more than you are able or willing to pay for a motorcycle. Upgrades will be available with new technology. So far the bike will run for 30-40 miles and then will need to be recharge. The plug is standard and is a fairly quick at recharging. This may end up being a fun summer bike, that is more closely aligned with a fancy scooter.
