GE- Going Green - Hybrid Locomotive

We thought that the major transformation in the way we travel was going to be with electric cars.

It may still be. But watch out for an innovation from GE. General Electric recently announced that they have a new green invention that will be available come 2010. The Evolution Series Hybrid Locomotive is a state of the art train that will revolutionize the train industry in many ways.

This powerful locomotive can produce 2000 horsepower in less than a second. They have some state of the art lead free batteries that combined with some regenerative brakes allow for more power and less energy waste. According to GE it is if almost 2600 cars were taken off the road by using these trains. The hybrid locomotive also emits half the amount of noxious nitrogen oxide when compared to old model trains.

But let's dive a little bit deeper for what this means for cross country traveling. This may give eco conscious consumers the option to travel by rail and not pollute the air with airplane or car travel. These new trains may be the new way to make trains. This innovation could do the locomotive industry what electric cars will do to the auto industry.
