Communication is a basic necessity for everyone on the planet. So is going maintaining the health of the planet. These two needs meet together with the introduction of green cell phones. The mobile world is eagerly joining other product manufacturers in doing their part to help the environment in a variety of ways. Cell phone designers, manufactures and distributors are working together to present more eco friendly products and services to consumers worldwide.
Recycled Plastic
One phone company offers a cell phone made entirely from recycled water bottles. It is said to be the world's first carbon neutral cell phone. The company offsets the carbon dioxide that is needed to manufacture and distribute its products. This offset is achieved through investments in reforestation and renewable energy sources through an alliance with an environmental organization. Further, the box in which the phone is packaged is made from recycled materials. A box is included with the phone for customers to return their old phones. It is also made from recycled material. Though low in price, the cell phone comes with full features like web browser, speaker boost, music player as well as text and picture messaging.
Green Inside and Out
One full featured cell phone is green from its outside packaging down to its innermost components. The packaging for the phone is made of completely organic materials. The casing is manufactured with a bio-plastic that is made from corn. Along with the components, this makes it a device made with 80 percent recyclable materials. The phone goes even further in making its green statement. Eco friendly content is accessible with a one click tile programmed into the phone. The phone is lightweight and has the same bangs and whistles as a traditional cell phone. The features include GPS, QWERTY keyboard and a long lasting battery.
Solar Powered
A few brands of solar powered phones were introduced at the 2009 World Congress in Barcelona. One brand is has a casing that is also made from water bottles that have been recycled. But the solar panels on the back of the phone take it to another level in energy conservation. As if that were not enough, the phone also tracks the carbon emissions which are reduced with the use of the phone. The device is free from harmful compounds and substances and also boasts a pedometer as one of its features. Another gadget that was debut at the World Congress has the solar panel embedded within the phone. The phone harnesses enough energy for three minutes of talk time every ten minutes. It can power the phone for the same amount of time as a traditional charger when the device is on standby. The manufacturer is marketing the embedded solar panel as a power source in the event of an emergency rather than for primary power.
Cell phone manufacturers have stated that they are designing renewable solar energy devices to show they are making the effort to a cleaner, safer environment. Research and investment continues to create even more products that encourage environmental responsibility.
