Green Energy Activists

There are many reasons in the current state of affairs world wide to become a green energy activist. Carbon footprints destroy the atmosphere. The coal crisis seems to be looming closer than ever. Fossil fuels are clouding cities with lots of smog. The health of humanity is on a downswing. People are afraid of nuclear power plants after the meltdowns and other catastrophes at Fukushima, Japan. These are all great reasons to become a green energy activist, but one common reason all of humanity should share is the ability to protect the Earth and the environment for future generations.

There are many individuals and groups that are considered green energy activists. A short list follows of some of the most renowned green energy activists.

Mirela Petrar believes that by embarking on the journey to world wide green energy usage, the environment will not only remain safe and inhabitable, but also beautiful. She feels that green energy will help preserve communities and their way of life. Mirela Petrar is the lead partner of the URBANENERGY, the new project taken on by URBACT, in Avrig, Romania. The aim of this project is to restore old industrial zones by recycling what can be used, and making these areas livable and usable once more. The team is focusing on hydropower, photovoltaic solar panels, biomass and biogas.

Van Jones founded Green for All in 2007. Green for All is a non-government organization that aims to increase the green economy to pull people from poverty and keep them out of the lower-income brackets. Jones is now a senior policy advisor for Green for All. Jones is also accredited with the initiation of Oakland Green Job Corp. This group was designed to educate and train low-income level individuals to become ready for employment in the green industries.

Sierra Club boasts almost one and a half million Americans who are interested in protecting the environment and the planet. A few of the goals Sierra Club is prominently focused on are ensuring that communities are safe from environmental factors, making transportation more environmentally friendly and reducing the carbon footprints humanity leaves behind every day.

Green Peace is a non-government organization that is not easily threatened away from their ultimate motive: protecting the environment. The global volunteers strive to eliminate the use of chemicals such as carbon fuels or fossil fuels. Two of their campaigns that are pushed heavily today are the campaigns targeted to stop the building of new nuclear plants, and to end the use of toxic chemicals as fuel that are released back into the atmosphere, thus endangering the environment.

Green Corp also campaigns political parties and large corporations to alter their lifestyles to become greener. Green Corp, however, takes it one step farther, and trains individuals for employment in the green energy industry, which is recently undergoing rapid growth spurts as individuals, businesses and governments recognize the need for environmental protection at larger levels than are currently offered.
