For people with attics, you know that it gets mighty hot up there and it is very difficult to deal with. There are 10 and 20 Watt systems available. The 10 watt will cover about 1200sq2 ft and the 20 up to 2000. There are low cfm's and no wiring needed. The fans cost roughly $350 and $430 respectively.

There are some advantages to buying the solar fan. If you are an eco conscious consumer, than you will love the fact that there are no wires and runs completely on solar power. If you are the energy and money saving consumer, than you will be happy to hear that you do not have to plug it and add unnecessary electricity expenses onto your monthly bill. The cfm's are low. The fan is very quiet and quite efficient as well.

There are some disadvantages to the fan. Attic fans in general meant to be energy saving items, in some cases they can be sources of leaks, or moisture in the attic. Make sure to call a professional and ask. Solar fans are generally more expensive than electric fans. If you have smaller attic, than the solar may not be the best solution for you.

AirVent, Solatube, Sunrise and Ventamatic all make solar powered attic fans.

If you are looking to increase the energy efficiency of your home, than you should look into an attic fan. Solar fans that do not use electricity help the environment and your wallet. Heat rises and can significantly raise your energy costs. The initial investment of about $400 dollars can easily be offset from the savings on you energy bill. As always, call your local handyman to ensure proper installation.
