As the saying goes, green is the new black. While you may have been looked at strangely not too long ago if people learned that you actually recycle your trash, it no longer holds true today. Almost 70% of the population is more environmentally conscious than they'd ever believed that they would be. Sure threats to the continued existence of the planet may have forced many of us into it but the reason behind the change doesn't matter. Only the change itself does. What the change has brought about is surprising and impressive in many ways. Going green is a call to arms for those trying to live healthier both in what they use as well as the type and amount of waste they send back out into the world.
What that all boils down to is that green products or tools that help save energy are at an all time high in their popularity. People like electronics and they like going green. So any manufacturer that can do both has made his or her customer base very happy. Recently Samsung introduced the first solar powered touch screen phone. The phone, called Blue Earth, was created from recycled plastic and every aspect of the phone and charger is free of flame retardants, phthalate, and beryllium. The phone will call anytime anywhere and on the welcome screen it even tells you how many trees you've managed to save on a day by day basis by simply using Blue Earth instead of another product.
The release of Blue Earth followed after Apple went green with the announcement of their intention to release solar powered ipods and iphones. The battery life of an iphone has been a source of irritation for many people, and while Apple made a number of suggestions as to how to handle the problem, in the end all it did was make the inconvenience that much more obvious. Then Apple had an epiphany. Since everyone else if going green, why not boost their sales and solve a problem at the same time by creating an iPhone and iPod that's powered off of the sun? Brilliant right? While they haven't been released yet, there are high hopes for the newly efficient (hopefully long lasting) apple products.
Green electronics doesn't just stop with phones and ipods however. Now eco-friendly products have even crossed over into the world of PCs. Unotron is known for its washable keyboards and mice. In 2008 they upgraded to SpillSeal technology. This allows consumers to clean and disinfect their electronics without messing anything up. Hospitals (and any area that worried about the spread of infection because of the repeated touching of electronics) used plastic covers to protect their machines. Thanks to Unotron, such institutions no longer have to waste money on something so inefficient and expensive.
Perhaps the largest green campaign that has come up over the last three or four years would be the building of the Panda Energy power plant in Sherman Texas. The plant is a generating system run completely off natural gas and is said to be able to power over 400,000 homes. The Panda plant will be the cleanest power plants in our nation and it's estimated that in the next decade it will bring in over $248,000,000 to supplement the area's economy.
Green products have proven to be the best choice when it comes to saving energy and the examples that you just read about were only the tip of the ice berg. With such advances being made and so many people going green it might not be such a bad idea to join the bandwagon (if you haven't done so already) and find out what all the hype is about.
