Renewable energy is popular talk among people today. Many are aware of some sort of renewable resources that are used for energy. Nonrenewable resources are rapidly being depleted and have harmful effects on the environment. In contrast renewable energy is more efficient in costs and on the planet. Natural energy is better all around. There are many sources for renewable resources available today for energy.
Solar power is the most widely known. This renewable energy has many uses. Solar lights were the first form of this energy used. Many now have solar lights to illuminate pathways. Solar panels made using sunlight to produce electricity in homes. Solar power is now used to fuel battery cells for calculators and other devices. A recent development uses solar panels to operate generators and air conditioning units. A major benefit of this energy is that this power can be stored until it is needed. This is useful during power outages and can reduce energy costs over time if used during nonpeak hours such as at night.
Wind power has been used for centuries. Many know that windmills were used throughout history for a wide range of things. Most common were millers that used wind to grind corn and grains into usable powder. Early settlers in the western regions of America used windmills to pump water from underground. Today wind turbines can be seen in places that have high winds like the plains in west Texas. These turbines are modern windmills that capture the natural energy of the wind and then convert and store the energy for practical use. Many homes are now supplied electricity in these regions from wind powered energy.
Hydropower is not new either. This renewable energy uses the natural force of flowing water to produce energy. A good example of this is the Hoover dam in Nevada. Residents around the dam are supplied electricity from the dam. Water has been used to power machinery in early industrial mills as well as to navigate boats in rivers. A recent development is the use of ocean water as a new renewable energy source. Others have developed a system to use rain or gray water to irrigate gardens in regions that often experience dry spells.
Geothermal energy is a renewable energy that has recently been developed to heat and cool consumers' homes. This energy is like the natural hot springs some regions experience. Hydrogen is now being used to make fuel cells, power vehicles, and heat homes. Biofuels and other natural materials are being used to replace the dependency of oil.
Sources of renewable energy are readily available throughout the world. Anything that can help reduce the harmful effects on the planet while providing the quantity of energy needed on a daily basis is a good idea. Solar, wind, water, and geothermal power are a few examples of renewable energy. As technology advances the sources that are renewable for energy will continue to expand. There is no way of knowing what the next generation of renewable energy sources will be.
