Disappointed with the Maytag Front Loading MAH2400AW

by Jeanie
(Seattle, WA, USA)

About three years ago, just after the 1 year Mgfr's warranty expired my new Maytag front loading washing machine quit working. I call it a LIGHT DUTY machine. I had put about 8 wet towels in it, some of which were even the small hand towel size, and apparently the weight was too much for the machine. The repairman informed me the cost of the digital control board was $400, so 3 years later, I'm still without a washing machine at home. I could have replaced the control board for $400, but I guess I was upset with myself for not searching out Consumer Reports before buying my new stacker set. The thought of spending that much on a 1 year old machine was maddening. I figured I usually have a pretty good time meeting neighbors at the laundromat and can do 4 or 5 loads at once, so I've talked myself into waiting 3 years now before replacing the control board. I now have a couple friends who've offered to do it for me, and they won't charge me, except for the part. I bought Maytag in the first place because my mom's set lasted all my growing up years and was still OK when they sold their home. But they're certainly not built like that any longer!!!
