EZ Energy Saver ES 1200 - An Energy Guzzler
by Jack Ackerman

I had a ES 1200 unit installed in my house August 12, 2009. The following four months I noted an increase of about 20% from the prior year in my electric bills even though nothing much has changed in our household electric usage. The installer (nice guy) denied it could be due to the ES 1200 though he did not come back to look at the installation. He was wrong. I had another, independent electrician look at the unit and he found that the unit is drawing 9 amps of power continuously. This, he said, is equivalent to having NINE 100 watt light bulbs on 24/7.
Therefore we turned the unit off. Yes, my electric bill went down. Perhaps the unit was defective or perhaps it was installed incorrectly or perhaps the unit is ineffective. In any case, my second (good electrician) felt that any savings from a device like this in a typical household would be very minimal.
What is also troubling is that the company hasn't responded at all to my report(s) of this problem to them. I doubt the unit is a complete scam, but it sure looks like it from my experience.
