Using Coconut Oil to Power Generating Units in the Atolls of the Marshall Islands
by Jose D. Dial
(Majuro, Marshall Islands)
I want to start a pilot project to process coconut oil into biodiesel to provide affordable electricity to people in the atolls of the Marshall Islands. By utilizing copra from coconuts grown in the outer islands, we can reduce dependence on imported petroleum, provide employment and income to local coconut farmers, reduce the carbon footprint in the Marshall Islands, and improve the quality of life of the people. I need capital funds to purchase small machinery for extruding oil from copra, refining it to become biodiesel that would fuel generating units. Coconuts are the only main resource in these islands. Thanks for recognizing this great need of our people.
